Alternative Medical Treatments for Managing Diabetes: An Overview and Artificial Intelligent Solutions
Downloads
Alternative medical treatments (AMT) have been used as a source of medicine for thousands of years. One chronic disease that causes high blood sugar levels and metabolic disorders is diabetes, resulting from low insulin levels and high blood sugar levels. The increasing prevalence of diabetes, its complications, the growing use of complementary therapies, especially herbal remedies, and the need for countries to use indigenous medical methods have led us to consider alternative therapies using herbs to treat diabetes. This review paper aims to introduce and review the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to identify and improve the effectiveness of AMT for diabetes from a herbal perspective. Firstly, we discuss the challenges of promoting AMT, common AMT approaches, insulin plant, and the processing of herbal medicine. It has been found that medicinal plants are a priority due to their low cost and accessibility, which is much less than chemical drugs. However, the findings show that there are barriers to developing alternative medical treatments worldwide, such as the lack of scientific investigation, political barriers, side effects, and socioeconomic barriers. The present study demonstrates that although some traditional therapies have been tested and approved in modern scientific studies, further research is required to prove the effectiveness and safety of these drugs by integrating AI. Therefore, greater attention must be paid to use of AI, complementary methods, and university education to expand the production of medicines and natural products.
